Being Green And Simple

Making A Simple Difference

Cosmetics, Toiletries And The Environment

Cosmetics

Creams, lotions, make up, nails, hair, soaps, toothpaste.

Did you know that there are whole generations of families that keep their own teeth and use only baking soda for cleaning. My own dentist recommends a mix of ¼ tsp baking soda and ¼ tsp salt. The salt kills bacteria in your mouth.

Hair. How about using ½ the amount of shampoo you now use. You will find that it still does the trick and you have cut down by half. When I was growing up there was one box of soap powder (Duz). The commercial said that Duz does everything. Well, it washed the clothes, did the dishes and washed our hair. Just one box did all that and we are still here today. Everything we put on our skin goes into our bloodstream. Perms and dyes are not good for our hair or our bloodstream.

Ladies do require moisture creams on face and hands and a good cream such as Nivea or Oil of Olay is called for. Look for sales. I get Oil of Olay $3 off coupons from a coupon site on the internet and then take it to WalMart (WalMart has the cheapest Oil of Olay around) and the bottle costs about $6 (half of what you would pay in Shoppers Drug Mart).

My grandmother had the most beautiful skin. Her system was to wash her face in only cold water, or cool. She hardly every used soap on her face, but when she did it was just the mildest baby soap. On days when she felt that her skin was dry, she applied a very thin layer of petroleum jelly at night. She used the petroleum jelly for all dry skin areas such as hands and feet. She would put it on her feet and wear a thin pair of socks to bed and likewise her hands and sleep in a pair of gloves.

That nail varnish also gets into the bloodstream. I know, it is hard to give up. I like it too.

Make up, a little if you must, but it is not good for your skin. The late Janet Leigh and her daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis are completely natural people. No make ups, lipsticks, dyes etc. of any kind and no cosmetic surgery. Growing old gracefully is a wonderful achievement.

For glowing, healthy look skin just get into the outdoors and exercise.

Hygiene Products

Diapers, sanitary napkins, incontinence products.

When diapers go to the landfill sites, they will be there for the next 1000 years. Lets be serious, this is ridiculous. The contents of the diapers should be going into the sewage system. We are usually washing baby clothes most days anyway, so why not throw in a load of diapers too. If you must be pampered, why not go to a diaper service. If you can't find find a diaper service there must be a need for one. It's a good business idea. There must be business people that would jump at the chance to start an easy business.
